Paul Watson Arrested: How Far Can Activism Go?

News

Greenland police announced the arrest of Paul Watson, environmental activist and staunch opponent of whaling, on Sunday. This was carried out under an international arrest warrant issued by Japan.

Our founder and lawyer, Christine Duchaine, appeared on Francis Gosselin’s show on QUB Radio on July 22, 2024 to discuss his arrest.

“As a lawyer and business assistant, I advocate for respect for the law. So when groups with environmental claims step outside the law to take more extreme actions, I certainly cannot condone that,” she explained.

She believes it is much more honorable for groups to defend their perspectives and causes by connecting with the public within the bounds of the law.

Mrs. Duchaine has cases where activists have attacked her clients, either virtually or on their property. In these cases, concerns are for these activists who venture into dangerous areas and for employees who may suffer from these actions.

“We all support the environment, but there are different ways to go about it,” she said.

According to her, social and environmental activism is desirable, but extremists often do it to gain media sympathy.
