Christine Duchaine - Lawyer, President & founder

Ms. Christine Duchaine embodies passion and determination.  She is considered by many to be a leader in her field after spending over twenty years practicing in environmental law and energy as well as fifteen years in expropriation.  Partner in a large national law firm, she headed, for many years, the Environment, Municipal and Expropriation department for their Montréal office. She is currently Vice President of the Quebec Division of the Environmental Law, Energy and Natural Resources branch of the Canadian Bar Association.

In 2009, she founded Sodavex in order to practice law in a more flexible structure that would be closer to customers’ expectations and needs.

Driven by an uncommon energy level and a great wit, Christine accepts all challenges. Throughout her practice, she has been involved in major cases where her talents as a speaker, negotiator and lawyer of high caliber were called upon.

Over the years, she earned a solid reputation as a talented litigator, which in turn allowed her to plead before all judicial courts, whether civil, criminal or administrative. She has a profound knowledge of all administrative recourses, which often requires very specific expertise, such as expropriation cases, injunction, mandamus and declaratory judgment.

Christine is actively involved and assists her clients in their development projects, such as the expansion of disposal sites, soil decontamination sites, establishment of industrial and commercial enterprises, the development of mini hydroelectric plant and wind farms, cogeneration plants or power generation using biogas and real estate development projects.

She often took part in cases involving contaminated soil and has extensive knowledge of legal obligations arising from the existence of such soils and possible solutions.

A strong believer in prevention, she advises many of her clients in the daily management of their businesses and keeps them abreast of legislative developments that might affect them. As well, she has been called to assist government agencies in the drafting of environmental legislation.

In addition, Christine has repeatedly represented clients in commercial and real estate transactions of all kinds in regards to all environmental aspects, for the negotiation of agreements, the drafting of clauses, the compliance audit, and production of opinions.
